What is a captive market?
A captive market refers to a scenario where consumers have limited or no alternatives and must purchase goods or services from a specific supplier. This could be due to geographic restrictions, exclusive contracts, or proprietary technology. Companies with a captive market often have greater pricing power.
1. Cafe and Sundry Shops at hospitals
2.Cafe and Sundry Shops at Railway and Bus Stations.
3. Cafe and Laundry Shops in University Campus.
From my observations, the cafe and sundry shops selling the products needed by the specific customers are doing very well. Here is the important roles of entrepreneurs to indentify the problems and give solutions to the customers at affordable price.
From my business coaching experience in Pahang, the Hospital Workers Co-operatives are given the right by hospital authorities to do business within hospital premises. Then this Koperasi will join venture with business enterprises to provide the services. Both sides make good money.
One good example I saw a week ago at Putrajaya Hospital. One shop CU provides food(breakfast/lunch) to visitors and also sell whatever are needed by the hospital patients and their visitors. CU is a cafe cum sunday shop shown below:
