LAUNDRY BUSINESS

Here is a new kid on the block in BB Bangi. I am impressed by the good design and facilities provided. Let us support our local businesses. One of friends owns two outlets and he is doing very well. Cleaning business is a never ending story.

Personally I never like to do laundry for my own clothes. When I was in primary school, our house maid did the laudry.Later, when I was at full boarding schools for eight years, I sent my soiled clothing to School Dobby. My first encounter with a laundrette was in Sheffield in 1973. That was a God send for me. Nowadays, most of us have a washing machine in our house.

Why laundry business?

The automated laundry business in Malaysia, particularly self-service laundromats, has experienced significant growth in recent years. This expansion is driven by urbanization, increasing disposable incomes, and a growing preference for convenient, time-saving services.

In 2024, the Home & Laundry Care market in Malaysia was projected to reach approximately $1.14 billion, reflecting a notable shift towards eco-friendly laundry solutions.   Within this sector, the Laundry Care segment alone is estimated to generate around $701.78 million in 2025, with an anticipated annual growth rate of 3.40% from 2025 to 2029.

The self-service laundromat industry has seen the emergence of prominent players like LaundryBar, which has expanded to over 400 outlets nationwide. This growth underscores the rising demand for convenient laundry solutions in Malaysia.

Projections indicate a promising future for the automated laundry sector, with an expected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 6.4% over the next five years. This growth is attributed to the increasing urban population and higher disposable incomes, leading to a greater reliance on professional laundry services.

Starting a self-service laundry business in Malaysia requires a capital investment that varies based on factors such as the size of the laundromat, location, equipment quality, and additional services offered. Typically, the initial investment ranges from RM200,000 to RM750,000.

For instance, LaundroPro Malaysia offers a comprehensive package starting at RM223,000, which includes equipment like 16kg stack washer/dryers, detergent pumps, water heaters, token machines, and renovation essentials such as water tanks, filtration systems, electrical work, and interior fittings.

On the higher end, myDobi® provides packages starting from RM500,000 to RM750,000, depending on the shop size and equipment configuration. Their packages encompass machinery (washers and dryers), installation, renovation, branding, and support services.

Additionally, according to Mr Clean, the typical cost to open a coin-operated laundry shop in Malaysia ranges between RM150,000 and RM500,000, depending on various factors.

It’s essential to conduct a thorough market analysis and consult with established industry professionals to determine the most suitable investment level for your specific business goals. In summary, Malaysia’s automated laundry business is thriving, supported by favorable market conditions and evolving consumer preferences. The sector is poised for continued growth, offering lucrative opportunities for investors and entrepreneurs.

By the way, my cousin owns about 8 laundry outlet in Kota Bharu. I think he is making good money.

ONE PHOTO EVERY WEEK 7/52/2025- CAFE- BAKERY

The Intoxicating Aroma of Freshly Baked Bread There’s something irresistible about the smell of freshly baked bread—especially when it’s slightly burned at the edges. The aroma is intoxicating, almost overwhelming at times, as I find myself lost in the sights and scents of warm loaves, golden pastries, and delicate cakes neatly arranged in a bakery. Growing up in a kampung, bread was a foreign concept to me. In our village, rice was the staple, and we rarely encountered Western-style baked goods. My first memory of eating bread was during small feasts celebrating the birth of a newborn, where we were served sliced white bread dipped in rich, flavorful chicken or lamb curry. That was the extent of my relationship with bread in those early years. It wasn’t until I became a student at Sheffield University in England in the 1970s that I was introduced to a whole new world of baked delights—cakes, pastries, and sandwiches. Even then, my heart remained with traditional Malaysian dishes...

ONE PHOTO EVERY WEEK 17/52/2025- LIFE SKETCHING ART BUSINESS

Last weekend when I was having a drink with my fellow photograhers community at Makan Buzz, I saw a small kiosk manned by a famous local cartoonist Kulatt. His business is doing live caricatures for passers-by.  He did one for me. It costs RM15. While he was drawing me, we talked about art business. As an art-entrepreneur business coach, I gave him some advice to diversify his active and passive income.   The business of caricature art sits at a fascinating intersection of entertainment, fine art, and commercial service. The image I shared shows a street caricature artist at work — a powerful reminder of how immediate, personal, and engaging this art form can be. Business of Caricature Art 1.
