ONE PHOTO EVERY WEEK 4/52/2025-WEEKEND BAZAAR

Weekend Bazaars are all over the cities and towns in Malaysia. They are great locations to provide opportunities for entrepreneurs and small business owners to promote, market and sell their products. However ,these places are not permanent shops for product vendors. For this discussion, I am excluding Pasar Tani. These local market areas(Pasar Tani, operated by FAMA)  are for permananent vendors but operate only on weekend. To illustrate my topic on weekend bazaar, I am using Pasar Benteng, managed by Pasar Seni, KL. Every weekend it changes its name and this photo showed it is themed as Pasar Warna Warni. In any localised business, location is very, very important. It is located by the Klang River and next to Pasar Seni. It sits on heavy tourist pedestrian traffic and benefits from spill over crowd frrom River of Life Project, the Merdeka Padang and Pasar Seni. Petaling Street and MRT Station are just a few  minutes walk. Pasar Benteng has  about two dozen kiosks on r...

ONE PHOTO EVERY WEEK 3/52/2025-ROADSIDE FOOD STALLS

The Role of Warungs in Malaysia: A Vital Part of Everyday Life In this blog post, I’ll use the Malay term *warung* to refer to roadside stalls, a common sight across Malaysia. These stalls are ubiquitous, numbering in the thousands, and come in various forms. Some are semi-permanent kiosks, constructed by building owners or local authorities, while others are makeshift, temporary setups operated by the warung owners themselves.   Warungs play a crucial role in Malaysian society by providing affordable and convenient food and drinks for people on the go. They are especially important for locals who lack the time to prepare meals, whether they are heading to work or returning home after a long day.   Warung owners are a diverse group. Some operate full-time, while others work part-time or seasonally, such as during Ramadan or festive periods. Many are self-employed and run their businesses with the help of family members. While most warung owners prefer to keep their oper...

ONE PHOTO EVERY WEEK 2/52/2025-NASI AMBENG

I was born in Kelantan and naturally my favourite rice breakfast are nasi belauk , nasi dagang and nasi kerabu. However , when I moved to BB Bangi more than fifteen years ago, I discovered nasi ambeng at MAEPS Pasar Tani next to MAHA and UPM. After a few months, I got addicted to nasi ambeng and nowadays I go to MAEPS Pasar Tani every fortnight to get my dosage of nasi ambeng. The price started at RM6 six years ago but now, it is RM8! After a few visits, I got to know Ejies the business owner. This nasi ambeng is a Javanese specility but I love it. He started working for FAMA and resigned to become food vendor at Pasar Tani/Pasar Malam around Selangor.  He is the cook and the business owner. His cousins attend to the customers. What are factors of his success story? 1. Nasi ambeng-niche food  2. He is passionate about his product. 3. Husband and wife team are good and competent to make the the food and its ingredients. 4. He himself is frying the chicken to ensure quali...

ONE PHOTO EVERY WEEK 1/52/2025

ONE PHOTO EVERY WEEK 1/52/2025 Tea Time Any Time Herewith I attach my first photowalk project for 2025. Every week, I shall try my best effort to share a photo with a short story. Here is a proverbial lamenade/lemon stand located near Pasar Seni, Kuala Lumpur. Its target market is the heavy pedestrian traffic from local and forreign visitors. As an engineer, I am very pleased with the simple design using metal container converted into food kiosk or food truck. Its simplicity, mobility and functionality amazed me. This business venture is empowered to succeed. Good luck,Entrepreneur! NOTE: This is part of my Photo Documentatary Project 2025. It will be a weekly affair of sharing one photo with a relevant story that inspire and motivate younger entrtepreneurs and business to grow. These postings will be published on my Facebook , Blog and Substack. Insya Allah. Herewith I am sharing some of the photos taken during my photowalk. These photos don't tell my stories. They are  visuals that  you see and what you understand and feel depend on your existing knowledge and experience.
